How tourism is destroying Cornwall is the underlying theme in this expressionistic and hypnotic film. Martin Ward is a fisherman and complains about how intruders have taken over the area. The fishing business has turned to worse. And instead of fishing, they feel trapped in an unwelcome development. The beautiful landscape attracts tourists who transform the local life. Martin and his brother Steven have been forced to sell their father’s cabin to wealthy Londoners, which in the brothers’ eyes are violating the building with tacky ornaments. Against their will they are soon dragged into the madness of tourism which lead to new conflict and disagreements. Bait is filmed with ”old-fashioned” technique and style; 16 mm film and in black and white. The result is
a fascinating and bizarre observation.
