It is Minsk in the post-Soviet 90’s and Velya dreams of traveling to the United States. We understand early on that Velya, with her blue wig and great love for house music, has a hard time feeling at home in Belarus and Minsk. But entering the US is not easy and her hunt for a visa takes unexpected turns. Velya ends up in an unknown family outside the town, they are in the middle of wedding preparations and Velya’s presence disturbs the order in different ways. Crystal Swan is a colorful story about a woman and her country where feelings of independence and belonging are complex.
