In some kind of alternative universe there’s a glittering remote island where the upper class send their loved ones when they don’t follow society’s charted values and behaviors. Our hero in this story is Uma, played by Emma Roberts, who ends up on the island to get on her feet before her wedding. The superficially beautiful retreat soon proves to hide dark secrets like brainwashing carousels and drug-milk. The director Alice Waddington’s visually spectacular film Paradise Hills is filled with unexpected turns and leads. It’s a bizarre experience that would best be described as entering a feverish sci-fi-fantasy dream.
