Based on the myths, fantasies and ideas that are embedded in the relationship between Greenland and Denmark, Lasse Lau creates a documentary about how colonialism characterizes Greenland’s landscape as well as the inhabitants’ collective consciousness. But there is also a willingness to break with old patterns and look ahead with a new political self-awareness. The documentary blends authenticity with performance and manages to handle a complex subject with great sensitivity. The result gives us a beautiful, funny and empathic depiction of postcolonialism.
