Grotteatern Celebrates 60 Years! – Theater Performances, Film Screening, and Mingling!
Grotteatern turns 60 as an organization, and we are proud and excited to celebrate one of Umeå’s most significant cultural institutions. Join us for the premiere of the newly produced documentary about Grotteatern! Starting from its politically charged roots in the 1960s, through the liberated 1970s, and up to the present day, the organization has both survived and evolved.
Filmmaker Tom Åsberg follows Umeå’s oldest amateur theater group, originally known as Umeå Student Theater and founded by, among others, Kay Pollak and Staffan Ling—today celebrated as Grotteatern. The film reveals fascinating stories from Grotteatern’s history, showing how the association has withstood both social changes and shifts in cultural policy.
