A phone call from a young love awakens memories of a shared past between Mia and him. He tells her that he has spent many years in prison, and tries to recreate his own person through her memories of their time together. Mia is doubtful, the years have passed and she is now in a completely different place, in a different life. She doesn’t have clear pictures of their time together…. or doesn’t want to. Eventually it comes back, she remembers the spring they met in Paris, she remembers the Vespa, the riots and the cat called Baby. She also remembers that one day everything was gone and life changed.

Belleville Baby is an auto-fictional essay film that deals with memories, longing and time. The film raises questions about identity and class, Engberg explores the limits of the predetermined and the influence of her own history while challenging what film can be.

+ Q&A with Mia Engberg after the screening, the conversation is led by Karin Johansson (Festival producer for UEFF 2013-2020) Engberg will show clips and talk about the upcoming film Year of the Black Bird.
