Carmen, 12 years old, spends her summer vacation at home in the city with her increasingly confused mother. Lacking peers, she plays with two younger children. Everything would be bearable if it weren’t for Bengbulan – Bengt-Olof, known as Bengbulan, who lies in wait, disguised, and terrorizes them. He doesn’t understand why he can’t join in their games. With no adult present to help, and when the adult world fails them, the children are forced to stick together and take matters into their own hands.
Suzanne Osten never hesitates to tackle difficult subjects for children. She aims to prepare her audience, both young and old, for life’s major challenges – including death.
