Holgut is a film that mixes science fiction, folktales and documentary on the arctic taiga. As the permafrost melts and the landscape that has been untouched for thousands of years emerges, the places change. We get to follow Kymm and his older brother as they move across the expanses, where their families have worked and lived for generations. They are in search of the reindeer, an animal that has become a rare and mythological creature. At the same time, we meet the researcher Semyon, who is digging for DNA to be able to recreate a mammoth.
This is a documentary that, in addition to creating breathtakingly beautiful images, also dares to break with its genre and creates connections between traditional knowledge and science. A film that takes place in Siberia but whose content is recognizable to us in northern Scandinavia
