Victor has given up on life, and when his wife says “I think you’ve been alive too long” it is mean but there is some truth to it. Then Victor meets Antoine who works with letting people travel back in time. When Victor accepts the offer to test this, his world is turned upside down. Victor decides to return to the day, 40 years earlier, when he met the great love of his life. It is fun and charming to see how Victor enlivens and falls in love again. La Belle Époque elegantly illustrates how film can work in the same way, that by seeing others fall in love we can be reminded of our own memories and perhaps in this way relive something great and beautiful.
