The Sing-along has become a tradition at the Umeå European Film Festival. This year, the Academy Award-winning film adaptation of Les Misérables was chosen through public vote. Emotional ballads, powerful choral songs and comedic storytelling segments are there to be sung along to, in this epic musical.
The stage being France in the 19th century,“Les Misérables” tells a gripping story about broken dreams and tragic love, passion, sacrifice and atonement – a timeless tale of the human soul’s immortality. Hugh Jackman plays the ex-convict Jean Valjean, hunted since decades by the ruthless policeman Javert for having once broken his parole. When Valjean agrees to take care of Cosette, the factory worker Fantines’ young daughter, their lives are forever changed.
The evening begins with a joint voice warm up, focusing on the joy of singing and relaxation. The movie is screened in English with English subtitles. This year’s sing-along is a partnership with Umeå Teaterförening.
