A magnificent Emma Stone plays the role of Bella Baxter, a young woman who is revived by an eccentric scientist and given the chance to face the world again as a child. We will follow Bella’s eager to develop, and are soon taken on a winding odyssey filled with desire, discovery and camaraderie. After films like The Favourite, The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth, there are few directors who arouse as high expectations as Yorgos Lanthimos. That Poor Things so playfully lives up to these expectations really says it all. It’s a creation that’s equal parts twisted and morbid as it is delightful and heartwarming. And not least, it’s an unabashedly funny film, which has rightly become one of the big talking points of the year ahead of the Oscars.
