With focus on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean, the film shows the global ecological crisis, but also the space of resistance. A quarter of the island is contaminated by the carcinogenic insecticide chlordecone, used on the large-scale banana plantations, the island’s largest export to Europe. Damaged ecosystems and a colonial past are shown to be closely linked and we get to follow the film’s protagonists when they explore different kinds of strategies against environmental degradation.
Introduction by Sofia Johansson, museum curator, Bildmuseet who talks about the film’s connection to the ongoing exhibition Ground Control.
