With both humor and seriousness, Family Time portrays three generations gathering to celebrate Christmas at their grandparents’ house. Everything follows familiar patterns: anecdotes around the dinner table, grandpa drinking too much, and grandma trying to keep everything under control. In her directorial debut, Tia Kouvo shows a masterful touch, crafting an insightful and precise family drama where humor and the everyday struggles of human connection shine through as different generations try to understand each other.
Family Time received 11 Jussinominations and won in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay—unsurprisingly, it is Finland’s submission for the 2024 Oscars.
