At this year’s film festival, we’re screening three of Suzanne Osten’s films—a tribute to a groundbreaking director and a visionary whose life’s work is hard to capture in just a few lines. Throughout her career, Osten championed the role of children’s film in Sweden, always placing the power of imagination at the heart of her work.
When we reached out to Suzanne earlier this year about the idea of a retrospective, she was delighted by the prospect. For her upcoming film Love Duet, she had worked closely with Umeå-based Janne Widmark, who collaborated with her on the storyboards. Our original plan was to host a Work in Progress session featuring Osten, Widmark, and the film’s producer, Helene Granqvist. Now, we will instead honor her cinematic legacy, her unwavering commitment to children and youth, and the profound impact she has had on future generations.
