The married couple and postal workers, Ernests and Alvīne, have long dreamed of traveling to Rome. When they get the chance to use a lottery system to make their dream come true, they don’t hesitate. But something is wrong with Alvīne—she begins to forget things and misses delivering the mail on her rounds. Ernests pleads with her to see a doctor, but Alvīne refuses to face the truth. When they suddenly win the trip to Rome, Ernests is confronted with a harsh reality he doesn’t know how to handle.

A touching story where serious themes are balanced with warmth and humor, where the couple’s bickering brings moments of both laughter and tears. Director Elza Gauja portrays the Latvian suburbs and their inhabitants with love.
