For the eleventh year in a row, Ume\u00e5 Filmfestival invites you to the annual outdoor cinema event. The screening starts at 9:00 PM, the 23rd of August, in D\u00f6beln’s Park. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on, as well as warm clothing. The store Frukth\u00f6rnan ensures that there will be snacks for sale on-site, and of course you can also bring your own snacks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The films that will be screened are Fallen Leaves by Aki Kaurusm\u00e4ki and the short film Unborn Biro by <\/span>Inga Elin Marakatt. Unborn Biro was 2023 winner of the Storspoven award, given by Ume\u00e5 Filmfestival. <\/span>

A pregnant widow is in desperate need of help to survive and provide food for her daughter. Lacking support from society, she decides to steal silver. However, the silver is cursed, leading to consequences for everyone, including the unborn child.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Elin Marakatt, born and raised in a S\u00e1mi reindeer-herding family in Sweden, is a writer, journalist, and reindeer herder. She holds a bachelor’s degree in cultural analysis from Ume\u00e5 University and has studied film at the S\u00e1mi University. “Unborn Biru” marks her debut as a director and screenwriter.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Fallen Leaves” won the jury prize at Cannes 2023 and has been praised as a warm blanket in a cold world. The film tells the story of two lonely strangers who meet in the night in their pursuit of life’s first, greatest, and only love. Despite their hopes and dreams, they face many obstacles. Everyday trivial problems are amplified by deeper challenges such as alcoholism, lost phone numbers, and not even knowing each other’s names.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film will be screened in Finnish with Swedish subtitles.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/ Ume\u00e5 Filmfestival is run by the non-profit association Folkets Bio Ume\u00e5, with support from Film in V\u00e4sterbotten, Ume\u00e5 kommun, and the Swedish Film Institute. \/\/<\/span><\/p>\n

\/\/The film award “Storspoven” is presented annually during the Ume\u00e5 Film Festival and includes a prize of 25,000 SEK, in addition to the honor and recognition. This award is given to the best film in the “Perspectives from the North” section.
