About our program

Umeå Film Festival is a recurring festival in Umeå during the last week of November every year. We offer a wide program of films from all over the world, between 90-100 titles in 2025. Over 6 days, films are shown from early morning to late evening with the Väven cultural center as a base. In addition to the two cinemas that Folkets Bio Umeå has throughout the year, we turn Vävenscenen into a cinema. To see all screening locations, look at our festival map.

Every year, tickets are released about 3 weeks before. The program magazine can be picked up at various locations in the city and is completely free, it also comes with Folkbladet and Västerbottens kuriren as an insert (also for those with a digital subscription). In addition to our public program, we have several industry activities that take place over three days and that we arrange together with Film i Västerbotten.

For those who want to submit their film to the festival, registration opens in April, this also applies to applications for accredited industry.

UEFF has a rich tradition of offering a range of events during the festival week. Sing along, Dinner and a Movie, Film quiz and live music. A way to simply spend time with loved ones. In the section called Red Carpet, unique previews of long-awaited cinema premieres are shown. Red Carpet is often associated with bubbles and mingling. You will certainly get this atmosphere during the opening night – which always takes place on the first day of the film festival and is open to everyone to buy tickets.

In the panorama section, we collect a selection of favorites from other film festivals around Europe. It can be everything from exciting debutants to established directors. A section that can surprise in many different ways and that shows .

Perspectives from the North is the section with the most films and the most visitors. All films in this section have connections to our northern areas. This section often contains a mix of short films, feature films and documentaries. The screenings often end with a question and answer session with a visiting director or producer.

For many years, the film festival has shown School Cinema during the day for young pupils and students. There are many ways to use school cinema as an educational tool in the classroom, not least because a visit to the film festival is a cultural experience in itself.

During late summer, we show films in one of Umeå’s beautiful parks with free admission. Bring a nice picnic and come!
