ERASERHEAD XIU XIU is a new live concert with an accompanying film, using field recordings, concert-specific handmade instruments, organ, modular synths, vocals, flashlights, and electrical interference to express the bizarre emotionality, conflicting sexuality, relentless darkness, and uniquely unstable lunar landscape of this most incredible midnight masterpiece.
In 2016, with the blessing of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, Xiu Xiu released and toured their surprising and successful album and performance *Xiu Xiu Plays the Music of Twin Peaks*. Out of respect and reverence for the beloved series, the band chose to retire the show in 2018. Following David Lynch’s recent and far-too-early passing, the band began receiving multiple prominent requests to revive their interpretation of this iconic music. But instead of returning to the past, and inspired by Lynch’s towering artistic challenges, Xiu Xiu digs deeper.
The original sound design and music by Alan Splet and Lynch serve as clues in Xiu Xiu’s sonic expansion—a reflection of how they’ve been influenced by the film as both fans and musicians. The original film gives birth to Xiu Xiu’s visual lens, through which audiences can be bewildered and stirred by the band’s imagined, unused auxiliary material.
Is it a fleeting art installation? An exploded tribute to a cinematic triumph? A gravestone for an idol, via an entirely new work? YES.
Is it intense, odd, curious, and cloaked in the darkest of nights?
OF COURSE—this is *Eraserhead*, after all.
