Film Concert: Stella Polaris

We present Knut Erik Jensen’s evocative film classic Stella Polaris in an entirely new form, with a live soundtrack performed by musicians from the Norwegian and Swedish hardcore and metal scenes.

The film’s original score by Arne Nordheim is replaced by a darker, more experimental soundtrack created by Carl Christian Lein Størmer together with musicians from the Nordic hardcore and metal scenes. Participants include Johannes Persson and Christian Augustin from Cult of Luna, as well as Marvin Nygaard from Kvelertak.

Stella Polaris tells the story of life in a coastal community in Finnmark, northern Norway. We follow a woman from childhood into adulthood and, through her eyes, witness the German occupation of Norway, the destruction of buildings and the reconstruction of Finnmark after the war. The film explores both a fishing culture that has disappeared and changed, and themes of love and belonging to one’s homeland.

The event is presented in collaboration with the Tromsø International Film Festival, where the film premiered earlier this year.
