Darling wins Storspoven 2022

 
Every year, the Umeå European Film Festival awards the Storspoven film prize. It is a scholarship of SEK 25,000 given to the best film in the Northern Perspectives section, which contains films related to northern Sweden.

 
Of this year’s five nominated films, the winner was Darling by director André Vaara.

The jury’s motivation is:
“A beautiful and touching depiction of exposure, vulnerability and the longing for freedom. The design is at the same time edgy and fine-tuned, and the film succeeds in creating a large story from the small format with great recognition around life’s difficult moments.”

 
This year’s jury consisted of Mia Engberg, Olle Agebro and Johanna Salander. The grand prize was awarded during Friday evening’s award ceremony at the Umeå European Film Festival. Älskling will be screened again on Sunday 4 December during the film festival’s open-air cinema on the town hall square, as well as digitally on Draken Film during the weekend, together with all nominated films.

 
At the award ceremony, the festival also awarded the Rödspoven documentary film prize, a scholarship of SEK 10,000 that goes to a documentary film focusing on a current and important topic. In 2022, the theme of the films has been about the end of life.

 
Of this year’s three Rödspoven-nominated films, the winner was Ruthless Times – Songs of Care by director Susanna Helke. The winner of Rödspoven will be shown once more during the festival, Sunday 4 Dec 15.00 at Folkets Bio Umeå.
