Set in the mythic landscapes of Karelia, Ukko follows a young girl who, on the eve of her grandfather’s funeral, discovers that her beloved cow has vanished. To find it, she must cross into the realm of the dead. The film’s haunting atmosphere and lyrical cinematography intertwine themes of tradition, grief, and the fragile boundary between life and the otherworldly. 

Arina Mado is a director from Karelia, Russia, whose films frequently draw on folklore and personal memory. Her style combines poetic imagery with psychological intensity, often rooted in her Karelian heritage. Ukko reflects her deep interest in myth and intergenerational storytelling.
