Tuesday the 21st of November this year’s edition of Umeå European Film Festival opens with Finnish director Selma Vilhunens acclaimed documentary Hobbyhorse Revolution. It is a film about girls coming of age while having a shared passion for “hobbyhorsing” – a phenomena that has increased dramatically in interest amongst young Finnish girls.
“It’s a wonderful and strengthening film about community and sisterhood. About doing what you love regardless of people’s prejudices. The festival is delighted to open with Hobbyhorse Revolution, not least because of the local connection.” – Karin Johansson, Festival Producer UEFF
Hobbyhorse Revolution is a Swedish/Finnish co-production supported by regional resource centres Film i Västerbotten and Filmpool Nord. It is also co-produced by Umeå-based production company Bautafilm.
This year’s edition of UEFF takes place 21–26 November 2017. The festival presents a carefully chosen selection of contemporary European cinema and locally produced films. The whole programme will be released the 31st of October.
