Sing along to Moulin Rouge!
Sing along is one of the most loved events on Umeå European Film Festival’s . This year we bring Paris to Umeå and offer a love story in the world’s most famous windmill. With music taken from artists such as Madonna, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Nirvana and Queen, it’s hard not to sing along.
Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! from 2001 is a jukebox musical with extra everything. The young bohemian poet Christian (Ewan McGregor) has fallen in love with the great star of the cabaret Satine (Nicole Kidman), who has already caught the interest of a rich and jealous duke. The action takes place in Paris at the turn of the century, but the music is rather a greatest hits collection for the MTV generation. So many popular songs were used that it took the filmmakers more than 2.5 years just to secure the rights to the music. Moulin Rouge! was an instant hit with audiences and critics when it came out and is now once again relevant, as the new stage musical based on the film took home the most awards at the last Tony Awards
The evening begins with a joint vocal warm-up, where the joy of singing and relaxation are the focus.
