The most festive film screening of the year must be the sing-along during the film festival! This year we sing along to the musical classic West Side Story. We will warm up together with Umeå’s own musical artist Stefan Lidström, who has starred in many productions of West Side Story. The film is subtitled with special sing-along text that makes it easy to sing along to the songs!

 
In West Side Story, the timeless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is set in 1950s New York. The Jets, a gang on the West Side, are getting ready to fight the rival Puerto Rican gang, The Sharks. The Jets leader Riff tries to get help from Tony, who was involved in founding the gang. Tony has quit the gang to take a real job, so he goes along only to keep the peace. At the dance where the gangs meets to arrange the rumble, Tony falls in love with Maria, Sharks leader Bernardo’s sister. Tony tries to limit the weapons to fists, but everything goes out of control. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 10(!), including best picture.
