Marlene Dietrich is at her wicked best as Shanghai Lily, a courtesan with a scandalous reputation. During a three-day train journey through war-torn China, a diverse group of passengers is taken hostage by a rebel army, led by Henry Chang (played by Warner Oland).
“Shanghai Express” (1932), directed by Josef von Sternberg, won an Oscar for Best Cinematography and was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director.
