Kaj, a 53-year-old Sensei, is unsettled after an accident that forces him to reconsider the course of his life. I am the Fire is both darkly comic and deeply reflective—a portrait of authority, identity, and the possibility of renewal. With his trademark deadpan humour, Patrik Eklund once again balances irony with emotional depth, crafting a story about the precarious edge between failure and transformation.

Patrik Eklund is an acclaimed Swedish director, celebrated for his darkly comic shorts and feature films. His earlier works, such as Instead of Abracadabra (2008), have won international awards and festival acclaim. With I am the Fire, he continues to explore themes of identity, failure, and absurdity with his signature style.

The Arctic is a place of thresholds – between land and sea, light and darkness, survival and surrender. In the short film program On the Edge, the Tromsø International Film Festival has gathered six short films from across the circumpolar North that move within these fragile borderlands.

Stories of identity, tradition, language, and belonging take shape through surreal allegory, mythic realism, intimate documentary, and quiet irreverence. Together, the films explore what it means to live on the margins – where resilience is tested and transformation begins.
