We follow Monica, an activity coach at the retirement home in Sköndal, a bundle of energy from Gotland who has gone all out in creating a meaningful life for the elderly. She works long days by taking various painkillers and at the cost of her own family time. When she creates a particularly close bond with the nearly 100-year-old Ella, the line between private life and work blurs almost completely. And when the end comes for Ella, the loss becomes an ordeal, which makes emotions overflow for both the film’s characters and the audience. A film that highlights an everyday hero but also the shadows of the boundless commitment beyond working hours that is required to be able to make a difference.
