Every year, the Umeå European Film Festival awards the Storspoven film prize. It is a scholarship of SEK 25,000 given to the best film in the Northern Perspectives section, which contains films related to northern Sweden.

Of this year’s five nominated films, the winner was The Night Train by director Jerry Carlsson. The nominated films were shown at the film festival on Friday night and are now available at Draken Film until Sunday 28 November.

The jury’s motivation is:
This year’s winner is a short film when short film is at its best! A simple but very strong idea, executed with great craftsmanship and precision. We are drawn into a throbbing and suggestive journey, with a subtle narrative and with a high emotional recognition factor. Once again, the director shows mastery on all levels. A short film that is simply complete!”

This years winner was announced during Friday night’s award ceremony at the Umeå European Film Festival. This year’s jury consisted of producer Andrea Reuter, director Ninja Thyberg and director Jon Blåhed.

Umeå European Film Festival takes place until Sunday 28 November.
